Bloodborne Fans Mark Decade with Yharnam Event

Authore: VictoriaUpdate:Jan 06,2026

Bloodborne celebrates its 10th anniversary today, with fans marking the occasion by launching another Return to Yharnam community event.

FromSoftware's PlayStation 4 masterpiece launched on March 24, 2015, cementing the Japanese developer's reputation as one of the industry's finest. The title received widespread critical praise and commercial success, making a follow-up in the style of Dark Souls sequels appear inevitable.

Yet since then... complete silence. Why hasn't Sony pursued a current-generation remaster, a full sequel, or at least a next-gen update to enable official 60fps gameplay? For years, fans have pleaded for more Bloodborne content. The enduring silence from Sony remains one of gaming's most baffling business decisions.

Earlier this year, we received a potential explanation. After departing from Sony, PlayStation veteran Shuhei Yoshida shared his personal theory about Bloodborne's absence. Importantly, Yoshida clarified in an interview with Kinda Funny Games that this was his perspective rather than insider information about Sony's current internal discussions.

"Bloodborne consistently tops the list of fan requests," Yoshida noted. "People question why we haven't released any updates or remasters. It should be straightforward, right? Given the company's history with remasters, some fans understandably feel frustrated."

"I can only offer my personal theory on the situation. Having left first-party development, I'm not privy to current plans. But I believe that Miyazaki-san holds deep affection for Bloodborne, his creation. While he maintains interest, his tremendous success and busy schedule prevent him from leading a new project. At the same time, he may prefer that others don't handle it. That's my theory. The PlayStation team likely respects his preferences. Again, this is purely speculation - I'm not disclosing any confidential information."

Miyazaki-san refers to Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware's president. His track record speaks for itself, from the influential Dark Souls series to the recent blockbuster Elden Ring, which elevated the studio to unprecedented success. The franchise's popularity continues with a multiplayer spin-off scheduled for this year.

Clearly, Miyazaki maintains a packed schedule overseeing multiple projects and company operations. Following Bloodborne's 2015 release, he directed Dark Souls 3, then 2019's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice for Activision, followed by Elden Ring for Bandai Namco. His next official project remains unconfirmed.

During interviews, Miyazaki typically deflects Bloodborne inquiries by noting FromSoftware doesn't control the IP. However, in February last year, he acknowledged the game would benefit from modern hardware support.

Meanwhile, modders have attempted to address the gaps through community projects enhancing the original PS4 experience. Sony's response has been restrictive. In January, prominent Bloodborne 60fps mod creator Lance McDonald announced receiving a takedown notice from Sony Interactive Entertainment "requesting removal of patch links I'd shared online, which I've now done." The DMCA notice arrived four years after the mod's initial release.

Just one week later, Lilith Walther, developer of Nightmare Kart (previously Bloodborne Kart) and the notable Bloodborne PSX demake, reported an old YouTube demo video received a copyright claim.

Recently, enthusiasts achieved partial success with PS4 emulators delivering PC experiences resembling remasters. Technical analysts at Digital Foundry published a video detailing "a breakthrough in PS4 emulation" via ShadPS4, enabling complete Bloodborne gameplay at 60fps. Could this development prompt stronger Sony intervention? IGN reached out to Sony for commentary but received no response.

With limited official information available, Bloodborne enthusiasts continue organizing Return to Yharnam events. The latest initiative launches today commemorating the game's decade milestone, encouraging participants to create new characters, maximize cooperative and competitive interactions, and share in-game messages identifying their involvement.

Perhaps these community-led efforts will become the primary way fans continue engaging with Bloodborne's world indefinitely.
