Capcom recently shared a pre-release update for Monster Hunter Wilds, addressing console specifications, weapon balancing, and more. This post summarizes key announcements, including potential PC spec reductions and a possible second open beta test.
Console Performance: A Closer Look
The developers revealed target performance settings for consoles. PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will offer two modes:
- Prioritize Graphics: 4K resolution at 30fps.
- Prioritize Framerate: 1080p resolution at 60fps.
Xbox Series S will run natively at 1080p and 30fps. A rendering bug affecting the framerate mode has been resolved, resulting in improved performance. While PS5 Pro support is confirmed with enhanced graphics, specific details remain undisclosed.
PC Specs and Benchmark Tool
While initial PC specifications were previously released, Capcom announced plans to lower the minimum requirements for broader accessibility. Further details will be shared closer to launch. The possibility of a PC benchmark tool is also under consideration.
Second Open Beta Test?
A second open beta testing phase is being considered, primarily to allow players who missed the first opportunity to experience the game. However, this potential beta will not include the improvements and adjustments detailed in the recent stream; these will be exclusive to the full release.
Gameplay Refinements
The livestream also highlighted adjustments to hitstop and sound effects for increased impact, reduced friendly fire incidents, and weapon balancing improvements, with special attention given to the Insect Glaive, Switch Axe, and Lance.
Monster Hunter Wilds is scheduled for release on February 28th, 2025, for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
