Lies of P developer Neowiz has officially launched the DLC Overture during Summer Game Fest, delivering a wealth of new content including fresh locations, enemies, bosses, characters, and weapons. However, one of the most talked-about additions has been the introduction of two new easier difficulty settings—a move that sparked heated debate within the community. Now, in response to ongoing feedback, the team is preparing further "difficulty reduction" adjustments to make the experience more accessible.
As a challenging entry in the Soulslike genre, Lies of P has always demanded precision, patience, and skill—often posing a steep barrier for newcomers drawn to its haunting narrative and gothic atmosphere. Initially, director Jiwon Choi maintained that Soulslike titles shouldn’t include difficulty options, and the base game launched without any. But the team has since shifted perspective, acknowledging broader player needs. “We wanted to make sure a wider audience of players could play the game,” Choi explained, signaling a more inclusive design philosophy moving forward.
For players tackling the Overture DLC on the original, "intended" difficulty—Legendary Stalker—the challenge remains intense, if not heightened. The spike in difficulty has generated a wave of reactions across forums, prompting the Lies of P subreddit to consolidate discussions into a single megathread to manage the influx of feedback.
This sentiment is mirrored on Steam, where players have voiced concerns about combat balance. One user noted: "I’m at level 300 and should not be getting 2-shot from basic enemies. It doesn’t help that the enemy grouping is designed for you to have to deal with multiple at once. This wouldn’t be a problem if even one of those enemies doesn’t take out half your health with one hit."
In a recent Lies of P Director's Letter, Choi confirmed that the team is actively reviewing player input. “We're reviewing all of [the player feedback] carefully and are already looking into when to implement some of your suggestions,” he stated, as reported by Eurogamer. “Among all the feedback, we are paying the closest attention to the combat experience.”
The development team has identified aspects of the combat system that didn’t align with their original vision. As a result, they are exploring various adjustments, including further difficulty reductions. However, given that combat is a core pillar of the Lies of P experience, any changes require careful balancing and rigorous testing. Because of this, Neowiz has not yet announced a timeline for the upcoming patch.
Our review of Lies of P praised its dark, immersive world and awarded it an 8/10, and the Overture DLC received the same score. “Even if it’s clearly dancing on the same old strings, Lies of P: Overture is an excellent expansion that adds a whole lot more to a game that was already great,” we concluded.
