Capcom Games Competition Opens Up RE ENGINE for Student Focused Challenge

Capcom has officially unveiled the Capcom Games Competition, marking their first foray into hosting a game development competition exclusively for students in Japan. Utilizing Capcom's cutting-edge RE ENGINE, the competition aims to invigorate the video game industry by fostering research development at educational institutions. Through this industrial-academic collaboration, Capcom seeks to bolster the industry, enhance research, and cultivate future game development talent within the competition.

In this contest, students will form teams of up to 20 members, with each participant assigned roles based on typical game creator positions. Over a six-month period, these teams will collaborate to develop a game, receiving guidance from Capcom's professional developers. This hands-on experience will immerse students in the latest game development processes. Moreover, Capcom is set to offer the competition winners comprehensive game production support, including potential opportunities for commercialization.

The application window for the competition opens on December 9, 2024, and will close on January 17, 2025, unless otherwise stated. Eligible participants must be at least 18 years old and currently enrolled in a university, graduate school, or vocational school in Japan.

RE ENGINE, also known as Reach for the Moon Engine, is Capcom's proprietary game development engine, launched in 2014 specifically for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in 2017. Since its debut, it has powered several Capcom titles, including other Resident Evil games, Dragon's Dogma 2, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds. Continuously evolving, RE ENGINE is designed to support the creation of increasingly sophisticated and high-quality games.
