ASTRA: Knights of Veda to Remove English Dubbing; Following Gacha Game Trend
Effective January 23, 2025, following scheduled maintenance, ASTRA: Knights of Veda will discontinue English voice-over support. This decision, announced by developer FLINT on January 20th, aims to enhance game stability and improve localization quality.
The update impacting languages like German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian, while retaining support for Korean, English (text only), Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian. Crucially, in-game voiceovers will default to Japanese for regions outside Korea. The developers clarified that this change won't affect players' ability to use text chat in any of the removed languages.
FLINT assures players their commitment to providing improved services and experiences remains unwavering.
A Growing Trend in Gacha Games
ASTRA: Knights of Veda isn't alone in this shift. Several other gacha games have implemented similar changes:
- War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius: Square Enix removed English voiceovers from new content (starting May 2024), prioritizing Japanese for future updates. Existing content retains English dubbing.
- Aether Gazer: Yostar Games completely removed English voiceovers (February 2024) due to cited financial constraints, focusing resources on gameplay and future content.
- Snowbreak: Containment Zone: Amazing Seasun Games removed English voiceovers (December 2023) after evaluating player preferences and optimizing the gaming experience.
The Rationale Behind the Changes
These decisions likely stem from a combination of factors: prioritizing the language preferred by the majority of players and managing the long-term costs associated with maintaining multiple language voiceovers in continuously updated games. Reallocating resources to other aspects of game development ensures the game's continued success and player satisfaction.
