Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Director's Insights on Mods and DLC
The director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Naoki Hamaguchi, recently offered insights into the PC version of the game, addressing both the modding community and the possibility of future DLC.
DLC: A Fan-Driven Decision
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, resource constraints led them to prioritize completing the final installment of the Remake trilogy. Hamaguchi stated that adding new content now would divert resources from their "highest priority." However, he left the door open, suggesting that significant player demand could influence future DLC development. Essentially, the future of DLC hinges on player requests.
A Message to Modders: Creativity with Responsibility
The PC version of FF7 Rebirth, while lacking official mod support, is expected to attract the modding community. Hamaguchi expressed respect for their creativity but emphasized the importance of responsible modding. He specifically requested that modders refrain from creating or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
This request acknowledges the potential for both positive and negative contributions from the modding community, a reality reflected in the history of modding, where creations range from enhancing gameplay to producing controversial material.
PC Version Enhancements
The PC version boasts several improvements over the original PS5 release. These include enhanced lighting rendering (addressing prior concerns about an "uncanny valley" effect on character faces), higher-resolution 3D models and textures leveraging the capabilities of more powerful PCs, and adjustments to mini-games to ensure optimal PC controls.
The PC port of FF7 Rebirth will launch on Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025.
