FromSoftware has unveiled additional details about their upcoming Switch 2 exclusive, The Duskbloods, revealing how their collaboration with Nintendo has influenced the game's style and character design. A notable departure from their usual aesthetic is the introduction of a cute, winged rat character adorned with glowing glyphs, which serves as the hub's keeper.
During the recent Switch 2 Direct, the trailer concluded with a close-up of this intriguing character, sparking curiosity among fans. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki clarified in an interview with Nintendo that this winged rat functions similarly to the iconic fire keepers from the Dark Souls series, residing in the hub area to offer players advice and guidance.
Miyazaki highlighted the influence of the Nintendo partnership, saying, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership." He elaborated on the character's design, humorously noting, "We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)."
FromSoftware's tradition of featuring central hub characters like Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll has been a staple in their games, providing players with essential support throughout their journeys. In The Duskbloods, a PvPvE title, the role of the winged rat remains to be fully explored. Miyazaki teased that the game will introduce "a lot of new and interesting ideas," setting the stage for unexpected elements when it launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
