Alex Garland Faces Elden Ring's Hardest Boss in 7th Run

Alex Garland, director of the highly anticipated Elden Ring film adaptation, has completed seven playthroughs of FromSoftware's acclaimed fantasy RPG and revealed his most challenging boss encounter.

In an exclusive interview with IGN ahead of his post-apocalyptic sequel 28 Years Later, the visionary behind Ex Machina and Civil War identified Malenia, Blade of Miquella as his toughest opponent.

"Malenia remains the ultimate challenge," Garland admitted. "After seven playthroughs - fully leveled with premium gear - I still find myself repeatedly throwing myself at her until eventually succeeding. It's less about skill improvement and more about persistence, like the infinite monkey theorem."

Surprisingly, Garland found Starscourge Radahn significantly easier to defeat, offering battle strategy advice: "Radahn becomes manageable once you activate all available NPC summons around the arena. They effectively handle half the fight for you."

The filmmaker remained tight-lipped about potential boss inclusions in A24's Elden Ring adaptation. The project brings together Garland as writer/director, Bandai Namco as rights holder, and executive producers including George R.R. Martin (who co-created Elden Ring's mythology) and Game of Thrones producer Vince Gerardis. While FromSoftware's involvement remains unconfirmed, DNA Films' Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich join as producers.

What narrative direction should the film take? Many fans advocate exploring The Shattering's historical events rather than reproducing the game's storyline. Share your theories in the comments section!
