According to a report by Insider Gaming, the extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, previously known as Project Maverick, has been completely rebooted. Initially planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7, the project underwent significant changes following an internal review. Despite receiving positive feedback from employees and testers, Ubisoft's management decided to reallocate most of the resources to Project Blackbird, which is Far Cry 7. The reassignment of the technical team to other tasks marked the end of the multiplayer component.
The responsibility for the rebooted project has been handed over to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio known for its development support. Nearly the entire original development team has shifted focus to work on the next installment of the Far Cry series.

According to insider Tom Henderson, as of mid-December 2024, Far Cry 7 is set to immerse players in an atmosphere of tension and desperation. The game's narrative will center around the protagonist's family being kidnapped by a mysterious conspiracy cult that conducts horrifying experiments with hallucinogens on animals and children. Players will face the challenge of rescuing their loved ones within a stringent time limit of 72 in-game hours, which translates to 24 real-time hours. This time constraint will be a pivotal gameplay element, intensifying the urgency and pressure.
A unique feature of Far Cry 7 will be a timer displayed on the protagonist's wristwatch, serving as a constant reminder of the ticking clock. This feature will not only enhance the sense of urgency but also compel players to make rapid, strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 aims to offer a distinctive experience where every second is critical, and every choice can lead to significant consequences.
