Take-Two Boasts New IPs as Winning Strategy

Authore: LucyUpdate:Jan 03,2025

Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games (GTA 6 developers), has revealed its strategic focus on developing new intellectual properties (IPs) alongside its established franchises.

Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, emphasized the importance of diversifying beyond legacy IPs like Grand Theft Auto (GTA) and Red Dead Redemption (RDR). While acknowledging the success of sequels, Zelnick highlighted the inherent risk of relying solely on established franchises, stating that even the most successful games eventually decline in popularity. He warned against the danger of "burning the furniture to heat the house" – a metaphor for over-relying on past successes at the expense of innovation.

Regarding upcoming releases, Zelnick confirmed that Take-Two plans to avoid releasing major titles too close together. While GTA 6's release window is still set for Fall 2025, it will be significantly distanced from Borderlands 4, which is scheduled for Spring 2025/2026.

Take-Two is actively investing in new IPs, with its subsidiary, Ghost Story Games, preparing to launch "Judas," a story-driven, first-person shooter RPG in 2025. This new IP will feature player-driven narrative choices that impact relationships and the overall story.
