Marvel Rivals players are risking account bans by continuing to use mods, even after a Season 1 crackdown. Since the game's successful December launch, players have customized their experience with mods, creating skins like Vegeta Iron Man and goth Mantis, even transforming Jeff the Land Shark into Pochita.
Last week's Season 1 update, featuring the Fantastic Four, included a hidden mod restriction—asset hash checking. Developer NetEase reiterated its terms of service, prohibiting mods, cheats, bots, and unauthorized third-party software, warning players of potential consequences. NetEase stated, "It is not recommended to modify any game files, as doing so carries the risk of getting banned."
Despite this, a workaround quickly emerged and spread online. While more complex than previous methods, it remains accessible to many PC players. Modder Prafit, who shared a workaround on Nexus Mods, cautioned users: "Use at your own risk," noting the potential for bans, although no permanent bans have been publicly reported.
New mods, leveraging the Fantastic Four additions, have already appeared. Ercuallo's mod, transforming Mister Fantastic into Luffy, boasts over 5,000 downloads in just two days, according to Nexus Mods.

The uncertainty remains: will NetEase ban players? While no confirmed bans exist yet, the workaround's popularity might prompt further action. NetEase likely aims to prevent bans to protect revenue from skin sales, address potential intellectual property issues, maintain gameplay balance, and ensure game performance; Prafit even notes that their workaround requires a "beefy" PC.
