Although Marvel Rivals is still in its early stages, the gaming community is abuzz with excitement over potential new features. One such feature that has caught the attention of many is the possibility of a PvE boss fight, sparking rumors about an upcoming PvE mode. However, NetEase has recently clarified that there are currently no plans for such a mode...yet.
During the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the opportunity to speak with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about the future of the game. When asked about any plans for a PvE mode, Wu stated:
"For now, we don't have any kind of a PvE plan, but our development team is continuously experimenting with new gameplay modes. So if we find that a new specific game mode is entertaining enough and fun enough, we would of course bring it to our audience."
Following Wu's comments, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo chimed in, asking if I would be interested in a PvE mode for Marvel Rivals, to which I responded affirmatively. Wu then elaborated:
"Yeah, we believe there are some of our audience that would like the PvE mode. But also, you can see that if we come up with a hardcore PvE experience, that will be a totally different and distinctive experience from what we have right now. So our development team has been continuously experimenting with different approaches to achieve that goal, maybe a lighter mode, in a lighter sense of that, and to see what would work best for our game."
While there are no concrete plans for a PvE mode at the moment, Wu's comments suggest that NetEase is exploring ideas for a "lighter" game mode, which could manifest as a one-off event or something similar. NetEase remains tight-lipped about further details for now.
Marvel Rivals continues to evolve with regular updates, introducing new characters every month and a half. The Human Torch and The Thing are the latest heroes set to join the game on February 21. Additionally, we discussed with Wu and Koo the potential for a Nintendo Switch 2 release of Marvel Rivals, which you can read about [ttpp]. We also addressed the issue of fake hero "leaks" in the game's code, confronting them about whether they were intentionally misleading dataminers.
