Guillermo del Toro's passion for Frankenstein rivals even Dr. Frankenstein's own obsession. During Netflix's recent preview event, del Toro unveiled a first look at his long-awaited adaptation, though a trailer won't arrive until summer. The image revealed Oscar Isaac as the iconic mad scientist.
"This film has been on my mind since childhood—for 50 years," del Toro shared in a video message, as reported by Variety. "I've been trying to make it for 20 to 25 years. In fact, some people may even think I am a little bit obsessed with Frankenstein." He gestured to his extensive Frankenstein collection in his Bleak House, a testament to his decades-long fascination.
Del Toro also teased footage showcasing Oscar Isaac's Victor Frankenstein confronting Mia Goth, a seemingly wealthy aristocrat, and Jacob Elordi's portrayal of Frankenstein's monster—a figure with long black hair, stitched gray skin, and piercing red eyes. This footage remains unavailable online.
"Over the decades, the character has fused with my soul in a way that it has become an autobiography," del Toro explained. "It doesn’t get more personal than this."
Del Toro's dedication is undeniable. His journey to bring Frankenstein to the screen has been remarkably long, a testament to his profound connection with the source material.
