Which Difficulty Setting Should You Choose in Dynasty Warriors Origins?

Authore: NoahUpdate:Apr 02,2025

Dynasty Warriors games are renowned for their hack-and-slash combat, yet they demand a certain level of skill from players. Understanding this, Dynasty Warriors: Origins introduces four distinct difficulty settings, enabling players to customize their gaming experience according to their skill level and desired challenge. As this game serves as a reboot, both newcomers and veterans might find themselves pondering which difficulty setting to choose. The ideal choice varies based on individual skill levels and the level of challenge sought from the game.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins features four difficulty settings, though initially, only three are accessible. Upon starting the game, players can select from Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), and Hero (hard). The Ultimate Warrior (very hard) difficulty becomes available after completing one of the main scenarios for the three factions.

While there is a Trophy/Achievement for completing a single battle on Ultimate Warrior, there are no difficulty-specific Trophies/Achievements for finishing the main campaign.

Which Dynasty Warriors: Origins Difficulty Setting is Best?

For those new to the action-adventure genre or those primarily interested in the story, Historian is the ideal choice as it serves as the easy mode. Wayfarer, the normal difficulty, is suitable for most players, including those with limited experience in Musou/Warriors games. Fans of the series might opt for Hero to start, but seasoned Musou players should consider stepping up to Ultimate Warrior once unlocked, to maintain a challenging experience while tackling any remaining missions, requests, and scenarios.

Players can adjust the difficulty between battles via the config menu if they find the game too hard or too easy, without affecting the story.

Difficulty Mode Differences in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

In Historian mode, all enemy attacks are blockable, and it's easier for players to stagger enemies, gain bravery, and fill the Musou Gauge. In contrast, Hero mode increases enemy strength and aggression, narrows the window for parries and perfect evades, and eliminates Meat Bun drops from enemies. Blocking in this mode depletes bravery, reduces the time to influence battles, and slightly decreases Skill Points and gold earned. Ultimate Warrior mode intensifies Hero's challenges with even tighter parry and evade windows and significantly reduced battle earnings.
