Danny Dyer's Latest Movie: Why Rockstar is Buzzing About It

Authore: EleanorUpdate:Mar 26,2025

If you follow Rockstar Games on X (the Everything App formerly known as Twitter), you might have been taken aback by their post about the film Marching Powder and its star, Danny Dyer. Rockstar's tweet, promoting the film as a "proper naughty comedy," might have left you wondering why a gaming giant would spotlight a small British film to its 21 million followers. Let's dive into the details and shed light on this intriguing connection.

Who is Danny Dyer?

Daniel John Dyer, known simply as Danny Dyer, is an iconic actor from East London. In the UK, he's a household name, often described as an "absolute legend." To understand his reputation, consider the Urban Dictionary's take on the term "legend":

"A person who embodies the pinnacle of all the important social aspects. Any person who is funny, reckless, original, and sensitive in the right measures is likely to be nominated a legend by his associates. A person to whose persona you aspire."

Dyer has been a fixture in the acting world since 1993, renowned for portraying gritty, working-class characters. His outspoken nature on social and governmental issues, combined with a "tough uncle" demeanor, has cemented his public image. For instance, in 2010, he advised a Zoo magazine reader to go "on a rampage [drinking session] with the boys" to get over a breakup. His social media presence is equally entertaining, as seen in his 2013 post about bonfire night:

"Roll on bonfire night..........it's gonna get strapped to a great big massive fuck off Rocket so it can join the other Furbys in the sky..."

How is Danny Dyer Connected to Rockstar?

If you're a fan of the Grand Theft Auto series, you've likely encountered Danny Dyer's voice as Kent Paul in GTA: Vice City, where he manages the Scottish rock band Love Fist. He reprised this role in GTA: San Andreas, working with the Gurning Chimps and later producing for rapper Madd Dogg.

However, Dyer's connection to Rockstar goes beyond voice acting. In 2004, he starred in The Football Factory, a British film directed by Nick Love and produced by none other than Rockstar Games. This surprising venture into film production highlights Rockstar's diverse interests.

Marching Powder, releasing this week in the UK and Ireland, reunites Dyer with director Nick Love. Though not a sequel to The Football Factory, it shares themes of football hooliganism, heavy drinking, drug use, and a distinctly British gritty humor. Rockstar's X post about Marching Powder is a nod to their past collaboration with Dyer and Love, rather than an indication of any involvement in the new film.

Is Vice City's Kent Paul Returning for GTA 6?

The short answer is: we don't know. The recent social media post about Marching Powder has no bearing on GTA 6. However, let's entertain the possibility of Kent Paul's return.

It's crucial to understand that the Grand Theft Auto series is divided into two distinct universes: the 3D era (PS2 and PSP games) and the HD era (from GTA 4 onwards). These universes have separate storylines, which is why GTA 5's Los Santos differs from San Andreas' version, and characters from the 3D era don't appear directly in the HD era.

Yet, there are exceptions. Grove Street from San Andreas appears in GTA 5, and various gangs from the 3D universe, like the Ballas, are present in the HD universe. The character Lazlo has also appeared across both eras. Notably, Kent Paul has his name on the Vinewood Walk of Fame in GTA 5.

While it's possible that Kent Paul could make a comeback in GTA 6, the post about Marching Powder doesn't hint at any such plans. Until Rockstar announces otherwise, fans will have to wait and see if this beloved character will return to the franchise.
