Chrono Trigger Celebrates 30 Years with Upcoming Projects and a Special Concert
Square Enix has announced the 30th anniversary of the beloved RPG Chrono Trigger, promising a year of celebratory projects. While details remain scarce, the announcement hints at possibilities beyond a simple reissue, fueling speculation among long-time fans. Many have eagerly awaited a proper remaster or modern console release for decades. Though ported to PC and mobile platforms over the years, a definitive modern version remains absent.
This anniversary will kick off with a special concert showcasing Chrono Trigger's legendary soundtrack. The YouTube livestream is scheduled for March 14th at 7:00 p.m. PT, running into the early hours of the next morning.
For those unfamiliar, Chrono Trigger is a seminal time-traveling RPG developed by a legendary team including Hironobu Sakaguchi (Final Fantasy), Yuji Horii (Dragon Quest), and Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball). Originally released in 1995 for the Super Famicom and SNES, the game follows Crono and his companions as they traverse various eras, from prehistoric times to a dystopian future. Players recruit allies, manipulate history, and confront one of gaming's most iconic final bosses.
While a remake or console port remains unconfirmed, Square Enix's announcement leaves the possibility open. For the latest updates, follow Chrono Trigger's X page. In the meantime, explore our list of the best JRPGs available on iOS!
