Deadlock's 2025 Update Schedule: Fewer, Bigger Patches
Valve has announced a shift in its update strategy for Deadlock in 2025, prioritizing larger, less frequent updates over the consistent two-week cycle maintained throughout 2024. This decision, communicated via the official Deadlock Discord, aims to streamline the development process and allow more time for internal iteration and external player feedback.
While this news may disappoint some players accustomed to the rapid pace of updates, Valve assures that future patches will be more substantial and impactful, resembling limited-time events rather than minor adjustments. The recent winter update, featuring unique gameplay alterations, serves as a preview of this new approach.
Deadlock, Valve's free-to-play MOBA/hero shooter, has quickly gained traction since its early 2024 Steam release, despite competition from titles like Marvel Rivals. Its distinct steampunk aesthetic and polished gameplay have contributed to its success. The game currently boasts 22 playable characters, further augmented by eight additional heroes in its Hero Labs mode, and a unique anti-cheat system.
According to Valve developer Yoshi, the shift to a less frequent update schedule is intended to improve the development workflow. The previous two-week cycle, while beneficial initially, proved challenging for implementing certain changes and allowing sufficient time for player response before subsequent updates. Hotfixes will still be deployed as needed.
Although an official release date remains unconfirmed, Valve anticipates sharing further Deadlock news in 2025. The expectation is for continued limited-time events and special game modes to maintain player engagement. The larger, less frequent updates will focus on significant content additions and overall game improvements.
