Monster Hunter Wilds: Duration Revealed

Authore: VictoriaUpdate:May 24,2025

The much-anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds has arrived on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, continuing the legacy of the beloved action series from Capcom. Following the success of Monster Hunter World and its expansive Iceborne DLC, Wilds promises a fresh yet familiar experience. But how long does it take to complete? Here, we dive into the time spent by different IGN team members to finish the main story, explore their gameplay priorities, and see how much time they've dedicated to the postgame.

Tom Marks - Executive Reviews Editor, Games

It took me just under **15 hours** to reach the credits in Monster Hunter Wilds' campaign. Unlike Monster Hunter Rise, where the first credit roll marks only the halfway point, this truly signifies the end of the story. However, this milestone only concludes the Low Rank portion, with High Rank offering a wealth of additional quests and challenges.

I spent **another 15 hours** tackling nearly all the High Rank quests, which I consider the true endgame. During this time, I battled every monster, unlocked all available systems and crafting options, and delved into the custom Artian weapon system. Thanks to Wilds' streamlined progression, it took me just **five more hours** to optimize my preferred weapons and armor set, though there's always more to explore across different weapon types.

I completed the final "story" mission in High Rank around **40 hours** in total, with **22 hours** spent post-credits after finishing the Low Rank. Tracking my exact time was tricky due to extensive menu idling for guide purposes. During Low Rank, I focused on crafting with available materials and didn't repeat hunts. In High Rank, I ventured into optional monster hunts and multiplayer sessions, which are necessary to unlock further Story Missions.

My journey to the final mission included one detour to upgrade my weapon by hunting an Ajarakan. If time permitted, I'd likely have spent up to **60 hours** crafting a more efficient armor and weapon set. Postgame, I'm looking forward to more endemic life-catching, fishing, and completing the remaining six monster-hunting Side Missions. I'm excited to farm specific monsters for Talisman upgrades, experiment with different armor sets, and try my luck with RNG to craft unique Artian weapons. I also plan to leisurely replay the story with friends using new weapons, and I'm eagerly awaiting event quests and future title updates with new monsters.

Simon Cardy - Senior Editorial Producer

It took me **just under 16 hours** to complete Monster Hunter Wilds' main story, a surprisingly short time compared to my 25-hour journey in Monster Hunter World without seeing the end. As a relative newcomer to the series, I found the battles quite manageable, with only a few instances of fainting against the game's apex predators. The streamlined approach, particularly in terms of elemental strengths and weaknesses, crafting, and hunting mechanics, made the game more accessible.

The consistent pacing of story cutscenes and monster battles throughout the campaign felt less like traditional Monster Hunter and more influenced by Western cinematic storytelling. While I appreciated reaching the story's conclusion swiftly, I wonder if this approach might leave some of the series' beloved elements on the sidelines until the postgame kicks in.

I hit the initial credits in Monster Hunter Wilds after about **20 hours**, with most of that time dedicated to optional and side quests, and some spent simply enjoying the world. I explored the map's nooks and crannies, hunted endemic life, customized my radial menus and shouts, and sought out optimal camp locations hidden in caves.

It took me **15 hours** to complete all High Rank missions and side quests, encountering all the post-credits monsters. Since then, I've logged nearly **70 hours** in total, enjoying various activities like hunting with friends, farming decorations, and hunting for monster crowns. I'm excited for future title updates that will bring new monsters to Wilds.

I reached the first credits in Monster Hunter Wilds after about **20 hours**, mainly focusing on the story with occasional detours to craft armor sets and experiment with different weapons, particularly enjoying the Switch Axe. At **65 hours** now, I don't see the credits as the true ending but rather a pivotal moment in the story. There's still so much to explore, from new monsters to crafting unique hats. The story feels like an extended tutorial, which suits me fine as it leads to more monster hunting adventures—except for Congalala, whom I'd rather avoid.
