Hyper Light Breaker offers players a diverse range of characters to choose from, each with unique playstyles, all tasked with battling the formidable Abyss King. Unlocking new characters in this game is straightforward, but the process isn't explicitly detailed in-game. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to unlock new characters and an overview of all the characters available in the early access version of Hyper Light Breaker.
This guide covers the early access version of the game, which includes only two unlockable characters at launch. We will continue to update this guide as more characters become available.
How to Get New Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
To unlock new characters, players must collect Abyss Stones, which are dropped exclusively by defeating the Crowns (bosses). To reach these bosses, players first need to collect Prisms, which serve as keys to the boss arenas. These Prisms can be located on the map by following the golden diamond icon.
After defeating a Crown, return to the teleporter at the Cursed Outpost. Here, you can select the Breaker you wish to unlock and spend your Abyss Stones to make them playable. Currently, there are nine characters in total, but only two are unlockable in the early access version. The method for unlocking the remaining characters is yet to be revealed.
All Characters in Hyper Light Breaker
Each character in Hyper Light Breaker begins with a SyCom, a crucial item that sets their base stats and core perk, defining their unique playstyle. Here's a detailed look at each character and their playstyles:
Vermillion
Vermillion is the starting character equipped with the Gunslinger SyCom, which provides a balanced stat package favoring ranged combat. His Rail shots have a unique feature where a critical hit guarantees the next shot will also be a critical hit.
For players who prefer melee combat, Vermillion can unlock the Tank SyCom, which boosts armor upon perfect parries and offers superior defensive and melee stats compared to Gunslinger, making it a safer choice overall.
Lapis
Lapis starts with the Lightweaver SyCom, enhancing Rail shot damage after collecting a Battery (ammo). Her standout feature is the Warrior SyCom, which increases her core stats with each upgrade, making her increasingly powerful over time.
With either SyCom, Lapis is a formidable character, but the Warrior SyCom transforms her into a powerhouse with significant stat boosts, outshining other Breakers in raw power as upgrades accumulate.
Goro
Goro is designed for ranged combat, starting with the Astrologer SyCom, which accelerates the charging of his Blade skills while he shoots. He can also unlock the Sniper SyCom, which directly increases his critical hit rate.
Goro fits the archetype of a ranged glass cannon with high damage potential but limited defensive capabilities. Mastering Goro can be challenging due to his lack of defensive options, but with skillful play, he can be incredibly effective in combat.
