Crash Bandicoot 5 Allegedly Canceled After Studio Went Indie

A former Toys For Bob concept artist, Nicholas Kole, recently hinted on X (formerly Twitter) that a Crash Bandicoot 5 was in development but ultimately canceled. This revelation followed Kole’s discussion of another scrapped project, "Project Dragon," which fueled fan speculation. Kole clarified that "Project Dragon" was a new IP, not Spyro, but his comment about a never-released Crash Bandicoot 5 sent shockwaves through the fanbase. The news, as Kole predicted, was met with significant disappointment from fans.

Crash Bandicoot 5 Allegedly Canceled After Studio Went Indie

The cancellation news comes after Toys For Bob's transition from Activision Blizzard to an independent studio earlier this year, coinciding with Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. While Toys For Bob is now partnering with Microsoft Xbox for future projects, details remain scarce regarding their first independent title.

The last mainline Crash Bandicoot game, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, launched in 2020 and achieved over five million sales. Subsequent releases included the mobile runner Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! (2021) and the multiplayer title Crash Team Rumble (2023), the latter ending its live service in March 2024.

With Toys For Bob now operating independently, the possibility of a future Crash Bandicoot 5 remains open. However, the recent revelations leave fans uncertain about the game's future and how long they might have to wait.
