Un ancien artiste concept de Toys For Bob, Nicholas Kole, a récemment laissé entendre sur X (anciennement Twitter) qu'un Crash Bandicoot 5 était en développement mais finalement annulé. Cette révélation fait suite à la discussion de Kole sur un autre projet abandonné, "Project Dragon", qui a alimenté les spéculations des fans. Kole a précisé que "Project Dragon" était une nouvelle IP, pas Spyro, mais son commentaire sur un Crash Bandicoot 5 jamais sorti a envoyé une onde de choc à travers la base de fans. La nouvelle, comme Kole l'avait prédit, a suscité une grande déception de la part des fans.

Le dernier jeu Crash Bandicoot principal, Crash Bandicoot 4 : It's About Time, lancé en 2020 et réalisé plus de cinq millions de ventes. Les versions ultérieures comprenaient le coureur mobile Crash Bandicoot : On the Run! (2021) et le titre multijoueur Crash Team Rumble (2023), ce dernier mettant fin à son service live en mars 2024.
