New Call of Duty Tweet Sparks Outrage Amidst Ongoing Hacking Issues

Call of Duty Faces Backlash for Prioritizing Store Bundles Over Game Issues

Activision's recent promotion of a new Squid Game-themed store bundle has ignited a firestorm of criticism from the Call of Duty community. The tweet, boasting over 2 million views and thousands of angry replies, highlights a growing disconnect between Activision and its players. The outrage stems from the company's perceived prioritization of in-game purchases over addressing critical, ongoing issues plaguing both Warzone and Black Ops 6.

Both titles are currently grappling with significant problems, including rampant cheating in Ranked Play, persistent server instability, and other game-breaking bugs. Prominent Call of Duty players, such as Scump, have publicly declared the franchise to be in its worst state ever. This sentiment is echoed by a significant portion of the player base.

The January 8th tweet, promoting a VIP Squid Game bundle, was seen by many as tone-deaf. Content creators like FaZe Swagg urged Activision to "read the room," while others pointed to the broken state of Ranked Play, where some players report only managing four matches in four hours. Several players, like Twitter user Taeskii, have vowed to boycott store bundles until the anti-cheat measures are significantly improved.

This discontent is further underscored by a dramatic drop in player numbers on Steam. Since the October 25, 2024 release of Black Ops 6, over 47% of Steam players have abandoned the game. While platform-specific data for PlayStation and Xbox is unavailable, the Steam statistics strongly suggest widespread player dissatisfaction, likely fueled by the prevalence of hackers and server problems. The situation raises serious concerns about the future of the Call of Duty franchise.
