Hyper Light Breaker boasts a diverse arsenal, and a strong weapon is crucial for any successful build. While you begin with basic equipment, the game offers opportunities to acquire more powerful weapons tailored to your preferred playstyle. This guide explains how to obtain and upgrade your weaponry in Hyper Light Breaker, a game blending roguelike and extraction elements.
Acquiring New Weapons
Exploring Overgrowths is the primary method for discovering new gear. While exploration naturally yields rewards, focusing on sword (Blades) or pistol (Rails) icons on the map will directly lead you to these weapon types.
Blades are melee weapons with unique movesets and special abilities, while Rails are ranged weapons, each possessing distinct functionalities. Both weapon types have varying rarities, with gold being the most powerful. As expected in loot-driven games, rarer items possess superior stats.
To save weapons for later use, press the Cache button instead of Equip. Cached weapons are accessible in your loadout before starting subsequent runs.
Obtaining New Starting Weapons
Beyond finding weapons during gameplay, you can purchase new starting equipment from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, only the Blade merchant is accessible. To unlock the Rail merchant, you must gather sufficient materials to repair their shop.
Merchant inventories are limited but refresh periodically. If their current stock lacks desirable items, check back later for new offerings.
Weapon Upgrades
Weapon upgrades are available from Outpost merchants, but require unlocking the upgrade function by increasing your merchant affinity. This is achieved by collecting Golden Rations, a rare resource found through exploration or cycle resets. Use Golden Rations strategically due to their scarcity.
Death results in a durability loss (one pip) for equipped weapons. Excessive deaths will eventually break your gear.
