Palworld's PlayStation State of Play Reveal

The PS5 version of Palworld launched globally as revealed at the September 2024 PlayStation State of Play. Sony even showcased a trailer featuring a Palworld character sporting gear inspired by Aloy from Horizon Forbidden West.

Despite this worldwide launch, Japanese PlayStation players are currently unable to access the game. This delay is strongly linked to ongoing legal action between Nintendo, Pokémon, and Palworld developer Pocketpair.

Palworld's PS5 Japan Release: Uncertain Future

Palworld's Japanese Twitter (X) account addressed the situation, stating the PS5 version launched in 68 countries and regions, but apologized for the indefinite delay in Japan. No release date has been set. The statement cited ongoing efforts to bring the game to all PS5 users as soon as possible.

While Pocketpair hasn't explicitly stated the reason for the delay, it's widely believed to be a direct consequence of the patent infringement lawsuit filed by Nintendo in a Tokyo court. This lawsuit seeks an injunction and damages, potentially leading to the cessation of Palworld's operations and its removal from the market. The outcome of this legal battle will significantly impact the game's future in Japan.
