Misinterpreted Comments Fuel Xbox Debate

Following reports from multiple media outlets covering ChinaJoy 2024, S-GAME issued a statement on Twitter (X) to counter claims made by an anonymous individual purportedly affiliated with the Phantom Blade Zero development team. These reports, citing the anonymous source, suggested a lack of interest in the Xbox platform.

The studio's official statement emphasizes its commitment to broad accessibility: "These alleged statements do not reflect S-GAME's values or corporate culture," the statement declares. "We are dedicated to making our game available to the widest possible audience and haven't ruled out any platforms for Phantom Blade Zero. We're diligently working on development and publishing to ensure maximum player reach at launch and beyond."

Phantom Blade Zero Devs Respond to The initial controversy stemmed from a Chinese news outlet's report, later fan-translated, suggesting weak Xbox interest. This narrative was amplified by outlets like Aroged and, notably, misrepresented by Gameplay Cassi, leading to a more inflammatory interpretation.

While S-GAME neither confirms nor denies the anonymous source's identity, the underlying sentiment isn't entirely unfounded. Xbox's market share in Asia pales in comparison to PlayStation and Nintendo. Sales figures highlight this disparity, particularly in Japan. Furthermore, limited Xbox retail presence in many Asian countries further complicates the platform's reach.

Phantom Blade Zero Devs Respond to The situation was further fueled by speculation about an exclusive deal with Sony. While S-GAME previously acknowledged Sony's development and marketing support, they've firmly denied any exclusive partnership. Their Summer 2024 update specifically mentioned PC and PlayStation 5 releases.

Although an Xbox release remains unconfirmed, S-GAME's response leaves the door ajar for future possibilities.
