Yukiko's Castle serves as the first major dungeon in Persona 4 Golden. Despite its relatively short length (seven floors), it provides a crucial introduction to the game's mechanics and combat.
While the initial floors present minimal difficulty, later levels introduce the Magical Magus, a formidable random encounter. This guide details its weaknesses and effective strategies for defeating it.
Magical Magus Weakness & Skills in Persona 4 Golden

The Magical Magus utilizes potent skills, primarily fire-based attacks. Equipping fire-resistant accessories, obtainable from golden chests within Yukiko's Castle, is highly recommended. These accessories prove beneficial not only against the Magus but also during the final boss battle.
When the Magical Magus begins charging magic, prepare to guard on your next turn. It frequently employs Agilao, a powerful fire spell capable of inflicting significant damage, potentially incapacitating unprepared party members. While Hysterical Slap delivers physical damage (in two hits), Agilao poses the greater threat. Strategically, it's advisable for Chie and Yosuke to focus on guarding, minimizing their risk, while the protagonist, the only character with access to early light skills, takes the offensive.
Early-Game Persona with a Light Skill in Persona 4 Golden
Archangel is the optimal early-game Persona possessing a light skill, Hama. It also learns Media at level 12, a valuable skill for the final boss fight. Archangel, a level 11 Persona, can be fused using:
- Slime (Level 2)
- Forneus (Level 6)
In Persona 4 Golden, light and dark skills function as instant-kill moves. Hama, targeting the enemy's weakness, boasts a high success rate, often resulting in immediate enemy defeat. This makes the usually challenging Magical Magus surprisingly easy to overcome. Given Archangel's high level, farming the Magical Magus can be advantageous, provided you have sufficient SP restorative items or are willing to enter the boss fight with depleted SP.
