"NieR: Automata - Best Locations for Beast Hide"

In *NieR: Automata*, players have the opportunity to experiment with a wide array of weapons across multiple playthroughs. Each weapon type offers various options that can be upgraded multiple times, ensuring that your preferred weapons remain effective throughout the game. Upgrades can be performed at the Resistance Camp, but they require specific resources, one of which is Beast Hides—a material that doesn't come easily but is essential for weapon enhancement.

How to Get Beast Hides in NieR: Automata

To acquire Beast Hides, players need to hunt wildlife such as moose and boar, which can be found in certain parts of the map like the ruined city and forest areas. These animals are distinguishable on the mini-map by their white icons, in contrast to the black icons of machines. While they generally avoid players and robots, they can be aggressive if you're significantly lower level or if you approach too closely.

Farming wildlife isn't straightforward as they don't spawn as frequently as machines. To increase your chances of encountering them, you can use Animal Bait to lure them closer, making it easier to take them down. Keep in mind that wildlife has substantial health pools, so engaging higher-level animals early on can be challenging.

Since wildlife doesn't respawn continuously during the main storyline, you'll need to hunt them while exploring and then move to different areas to find new spawns. Here are some tips to help with respawning:

  • Fast traveling will respawn all enemies and wildlife.
  • Moving far enough away from an area will cause enemies and wildlife to respawn in the areas you've left.
  • Triggering certain story moments can also cause nearby enemies and wildlife to respawn.

There's no easy farming method for Beast Hides, but by systematically eliminating wildlife you encounter in the forest and city ruins, you'll generally gather enough. Beast Hides have a decent drop rate, so as long as you're not upgrading more weapons than you can use at once, you won't need an excessive amount at any given time.
