Netflix Games Loses Two GTA

Netflix Games is losing two Grand Theft Auto titles next month. Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will be removed from the Netflix Games catalog on December 13th.

Why are these games leaving?

The licensing agreement between Netflix and Rockstar Games for these two titles is expiring. This is standard practice for Netflix, which licenses games similarly to how it licenses movies and TV shows. A "Leaving Soon" notification will appear in-game before their removal. The games were added to Netflix Games exactly one year ago.

What happens after December 13th?

After December 13th, Netflix subscribers will no longer have access to GTA III and Vice City through the Netflix Games platform. However, both games are available for purchase individually ($4.99 each) or as part of a trilogy bundle ($11.99) on the Google Play Store. This is in contrast to other games removed from Netflix Games in the past, which were removed without prior notice.

Future Possibilities?

While Rockstar Games isn't renewing the license for these specific titles, there are rumors that Rockstar and Netflix are collaborating on bringing remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars to the platform in the future.

This news follows the recent removal of other titles, such as Samurai Shodown V and WrestleQuest. It's noteworthy that the GTA trilogy's presence significantly boosted Netflix Games' subscriber count in 2023.
