Navigating the "Cursed" Mission in Metro 2033: A Comprehensive Guide
Even after more than a decade, Metro 2033 remains a fan favorite, enjoying a resurgence in popularity thanks to the VR title, Metro Awakening. This guide focuses on the notoriously tricky "Cursed" mission, which takes place in the Turgenevskaya station (as it's known in the books and real life). This mission often stumps players due to unclear objectives and a confusing station layout. The mission begins after the railcar ride following the anomaly encounter.
Locating the Bomb
The defenders at the barricaded escalators explain that a bomb squad attempted to collapse the tunnel to stop the nosalis attacks but went missing. Your task is to find and detonate the bomb. Expect constant nosalis attacks; retreat to the defenders for support if overwhelmed. The bomb is located at the far end of the right-hand tunnel. Avoid the ghostly shadows in the main tunnel – they'll damage you. Retrieve the bomb and either proceed to the adjacent tunnel or retreat if necessary.
Destroying the Tunnel
To detonate the bomb, enter the left-hand tunnel (from the defenders' perspective). A cutscene will trigger, showing Artyom planting and lighting the fuse. Escape immediately; the blast is lethal at close range. Alternatively, a grenade or pipe bomb thrown into the same tunnel area will achieve the same result. Note: Nosalises will still infiltrate via other routes.
Destroying the Airlock
Securing the station requires destroying an airlock. Ascend the stairs to the right of the main platform, towards the torchlit area. Ignore the nosalises there. Interact with the support columns to plant a pipe bomb with a lit fuse. Evacuate immediately after planting the bomb. With both tunnel entrances destroyed, proceed with Khan to the shrine room, leading to the "Armory" mission.
