Marvel Hero Supports Sleeping Dogs Film

Authore: MiaUpdate:Feb 18,2025

Simu Liu, the star of Marvel's Shang-Chi, is attempting to revive the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reports Liu responded to a fan on X/Twitter, stating he's actively working with rights holders to bring the game to the big screen.

The project, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, was quietly shelved a year later. Yen recently confirmed its cancellation, citing years of invested time, effort, and personal funds, ultimately thwarted by the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.

Liu's intervention reignites hope for the Hong Kong-set action franchise. However, the success of his endeavor in securing the rights or otherwise launching the film remains uncertain.

The original Sleeping Dogs video game, released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows Detective Wei Shen as he undertakes an undercover operation within a powerful Hong Kong Triad. Critically acclaimed (earning an 8/10 from IGN), the game's success, despite its positive reception, never translated into sequels.
