Unlock Lasher: A Powerful Addition to Your Marvel Snap Roster?
While the Marvel Rivals season in Marvel Snap winds down, a free reward awaits those willing to tackle the returning High Voltage game mode: Lasher, a symbiote from October's We Are Venom season. But is this new addition worth the effort?
Lasher's Abilities in Marvel Snap
Lasher is a 2-power, 2-cost card with a potent ability: "Activate: Afflict an enemy card here with negative Power equal to this card’s Power."
Essentially, Lasher inflicts -2 power on an opponent's card unless boosted. Given Marvel Snap's numerous buff options, Lasher's potential surpasses that of free cards like Agony and King Etri. For example, Namora can transform Lasher into a 7-power card, or even a 12-power card with Wong or Odin, resulting in a -14 or -24 power impact. He synergizes particularly well with the season pass card, Galacta.
Remember, as an Activate card, playing Lasher by turn 5 maximizes his effect.
Optimal Lasher Decks
While Lasher's meta position is still developing, he excels in buff-heavy decks, notably Silver Surfer decks. While these decks usually lack space for 2-cost cards, Lasher's late-game activation can significantly shift power dynamics. Consider this decklist:
Nova, Forge, Lasher, Okoye, Brood, Silver Surfer, Killmonger, Nakia, Red Guardian, Sebastian Shaw, Copycat, Galacta: Daughter of Galactus. (Copyable from Untapped)
This deck features expensive Series 5 cards (Red Guardian, Sebastian Shaw, Copycat, Galacta), but these can be substituted with other strong 3-cost cards like Juggernaut or Polaris. Lasher serves as an excellent third target for Forge, ideally saved for Brood or Sebastian Shaw. Following Galacta's turn 4 play, Lasher becomes invaluable, effectively acting as a 10-power card (a 5-power card with Galacta's buff, inflicting -5 power).
This Silver Surfer deck is adaptable; consider omitting Absorbing Man, Gwenpool, and Sera. Lasher thrives in decks with substantial hand and board buffs, making Silver Surfer decks a prime candidate. Experimentation with Namora as a primary buff card also shows promise.
Another potent, albeit expensive, decklist:
Agony, Zabu, Lasher, Psylocke, Hulk Buster, Jeff!, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Spider, Galacta: Daughter of Galactus, Gwenpool, Symbiote Spider-Man, Namora. (Copyable from Untapped)
This deck relies on Galacta, Gwenpool, and Namora to boost Lasher and Scarlet Spider, spreading power across the board. Zabu and Psylocke accelerate 4-cost card deployment, while Symbiote Spider-Man reactivates Namora. Jeff! and Hulk Buster offer backup.
Is the High Voltage Grind Worth It?
In Marvel Snap's increasingly expensive landscape, Lasher is a worthwhile acquisition if you have the time to grind High Voltage. The mode offers numerous rewards before unlocking Lasher, making the effort rewarding. While not a guaranteed meta staple, Lasher's utility, similar to Agony, ensures his relevance in several meta decks.
