It's important to note that while *Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2* is playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, the public test server is exclusively accessible to PC players. Fortunately, joining is straightforward through Steam, requiring no complex maneuvers.

To access the public test server, PC players should navigate to their Steam library, locate *Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2*, and find the public test server listed just below the main game entry. Access to the test server is exclusive to those who have already purchased *Space Marine 2* on Steam. Once you've found it, simply download and install the test server, which functions as a standalone application separate from the main game.

The *Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2* public test server is packed with fresh content for both PvE and PvP modes, featuring new weapons, modifications, and customization options for players to explore. The majority of the updates are focused on PvE mode, including a new map, relaxed class restrictions on weapons, and enhancements to online gameplay features. Keep in mind that the content, especially the new PvE additions, is still under development and subject to changes before its official release.

In terms of online gameplay, the public test server introduces improved matchmaking for both PvE and PvP, with a focus on better team balancing. The PvE matchmaking system aims to minimize the occurrence of players selecting the same class ending up on the same team and includes a prestige leveling system. Meanwhile, the PvP mode offers enhanced lobby customization to enrich the multiplayer experience.

For those with mods installed for *Space Marine 2*, note that these will not work within the public test server environment. Additionally, while you can create and customize content using the available assets on the test server, these creations will not carry over to the main game due to the test server operating as a distinct build. There has been no official confirmation on whether progression or content from the test server will transfer to the main game, though it is generally not expected.
