Tentacle Tactics

Nu Udra presents a formidable challenge in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its massive tentacles grant it impressive reach, making evasion tricky. However, these same tentacles offer melee fighters the closest access points for attack. Severing its arms yields valuable materials, but caution is advised—these limbs are powerful weapons themselves.

Target the Maw

Ranged weapon users have diverse options, but targeting Nu Udra's mouth remains the optimal strategy. Its almost entirely pitch-black hide makes the mouth difficult to spot initially, but its 4-star weakness to attacks makes it a prime target. Alternatively, the head offers a 3-star weakness to ammo damage, proving a viable alternative for blunt and cut damage.

Harness the Power of Watermoss

Nu Udra possesses a fire affinity, unleashing fiery attacks alongside its limb strikes. At a certain point, it even ignites itself, creating a dangerous proximity due to the Fireblight debuff. Using Watermoss is highly recommended to mitigate this threat and allow for safe attacks.

Embrace Fire Resistance

Struggling against the Black Flame? Equipping fire-resistant gear is highly recommended. The Quematrice armor set, boasting the Fire Resistance skill, is a strong choice. Consider adding decorations that reduce elemental damage, such as the Fire Res Jewel or the Stream Jewel (for enhanced Water Attack).

Evade the Grasp

Nu Udra's arsenal includes several dangerous moves, but its grab attack poses the most significant threat. If caught too close, it may ensnare you with its tentacles, followed by a fiery blast. During the brief pause after the grab, use a knife to break free or attempt a Slinger attack on a weak point.

To capture Nu Udra, prepare either a Pitfall or Shock Trap. However, deployment requires weakening the monster to near-death. Look for the skull icon next to its boss icon to determine the opportune moment. Luring it with meat or simply running behind the trap while it targets you are effective strategies. Once trapped, immediately use a Tranquilizer; you have approximately five seconds before it breaks free.
