Assassin's Creed Shadows Faces Another Delay, Now Targeting March 20, 2025
Ubisoft has announced a further delay for the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed Shadows, pushing its release date back from February 14, 2025, to March 20, 2025. This marks the second delay for the title, initially slated for a November 2024 launch.
The publisher cites the need to incorporate player feedback as the primary reason for this postponement. This differs from the first delay, announced in September 2024, which was attributed to development challenges related to historical and cultural accuracy. Ubisoft's Vice President and Executive Producer, Marc-Alexis Coté, emphasized the company's commitment to delivering a high-quality, immersive experience shaped by player input. Both delays, however, share the common goal of providing additional time for refinement and polishing.
While the September delay resulted in pre-order refunds and bonus content for future pre-orders, Ubisoft hasn't yet commented on similar incentives for this latest postponement. The shorter timeframe of this delay—five weeks instead of three months—might mitigate potential player frustration.
This additional delay could also be linked to Ubisoft's ongoing internal investigation into its development practices. The company, while still a major player in the gaming industry, experienced record losses in its 2023 fiscal year. This investigation aims to create a more "player-centric" approach to game development, and the incorporation of fan feedback into Assassin's Creed Shadows could be a direct result of this initiative.
Key Details:
- New Release Date: March 20, 2025
- Reason for Delay: Incorporation of player feedback.
- Previous Delay: September 2024 (November 15 to February 14)
The extended development time suggests Ubisoft is prioritizing quality and player satisfaction, even if it means delaying the game's release further. The impact of this decision on the company's financial performance remains to be seen.
