Mastering Weapon and Armor Upgrades in Avowed: A Comprehensive Guide

Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly challenging enemies. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear is crucial. This guide details how to enhance weapons and armor in Avowed.

Upgrade Locations: Workbenches

Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above). These require specific materials depending on the item type and Quality. Most materials are readily available through exploration or crafting. However, advancing an item's Quality requires progressively rarer Adra.

Workbenches are situated at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones. Locate a Waystone, interact with it, and choose the option to set up camp. These camps are marked on your map with a tent icon and offer fast travel functionality.

Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels

Gear in Avowed uses two metrics to determine power: Quality and Upgrade Level.

Quality: Represented by a numerical value, color rarity (Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Gold), and an adjective. This directly correlates to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Lower Quality gear is ineffective against higher-level foes. Using gear matching or exceeding enemy level is key to effective combat.
Upgrade Levels (+0 to +3): Within each Quality tier, three additional upgrade levels exist. These offer incremental stat boosts, but all three must be completed before advancing to the next Quality.

Prioritizing Upgrades: Unique vs. Standard Gear

Avowed features standard and Unique gear. Standard gear is common loot or merchant purchases, while Unique items are named, often quest rewards or boss drops. Some merchants may also sell Unique items.

Unique Gear: Can reach Legendary Quality, offering superior stats and perks compared to standard gear. Prioritize upgrading these items.
Standard Gear: Generally upgrades only to Superb Quality. Use these temporarily and then sell or dismantle them for resources to upgrade your Unique gear.

In short: Focus your upgrade resources on Unique weapons and armor for optimal combat performance. Standard gear serves as a temporary bridge between finding and upgrading better equipment.
