This simple non-field RPG challenges you to escape a cursed forest.
-Prologue-
You're the village's best hunter. A national hunting tournament is being held near the royal capital, and you've journeyed there to compete. After attending the opening ceremony, you eagerly entered the forest. Waking up after your first night camping, you discover something unsettling: everyone's vanished. Only the remnants of a large hunter encampment remain. The national guard, responsible for overseeing the tournament, is nowhere to be found.
Despite searching, you find no one. You cautiously begin to move, only to encounter another oddity – a tree with peculiar branches… a tree you're sure you saw just moments ago. You were heading north, back to the forest entrance, but you've somehow ended up in the same spot. This is unusual even for a seasoned hunter like yourself, who prides himself on his navigational skills. Whether you stay put or continue moving seems to make no difference. Fighting off panic, you press on.
-What is the ""?-
Aided by a quarter-elf, you, the hunter, must escape the cursed forest in this non-field RPG. Gameplay is exceptionally streamlined, using a maximum of three buttons at any given time (excluding the main menu).
-Character Creation-
While manual customization isn't available, you can freely reroll your stats as often as needed. The stat increase rate upon leveling up is only visible on this screen; this information isn't accessible during gameplay. Stat rerolling is a key in-game mechanic. Game over occurs when your life force reaches zero and you have fewer than two "talismans".
-Peddler Quarter-Elf "Foria"-
A young (or perhaps not so young) quarter-elf you encounter in the forest. Despite their childlike appearance, Foria claims to be older than you. While seemingly unconcerned with your predicament, they secretly aid your escape using the forest's ancient spirits.
-Scenario/Scene-
The prologue unfolds smoothly like a visual novel. Foria's dialogue is cheerful, contrasting with the quiet, suggestive language used to depict the game's world.
-Exploration Mode-
Progress through the forest by exploring unexplored areas in each section. The outcome of each exploration attempt is determined by the area's "fog depth," which is influenced by your character's stats. If your life force is depleted, you can use poison to restore it. In some cases, using rare "talismans" might be necessary, or you may choose to return to Foria.
-Beast Encounters/Hunter Battles-
Ferocious creatures roam the forest, from wild dogs and wolves to surprisingly aggressive frogs and rabbits. Defeating them yields hides that can be traded with Foria. Unlike typical RPGs, combat doesn't grant experience points; the goal is simply escape. Battles are entirely avoidable (though this requires luck or skillful play).
As a hunter, you use a bow and arrow. You must maintain a safe distance to attack. At range, you can attack without risk of counterattack, but closing the distance allows for a swift, one-sided assault from the beast. You can choose to withdraw (with variable success) or use a "flash" ball provided by Foria for guaranteed escape. You can also use wound medicine to restore health at a distance.
-Cloak/Layering System-
Foria crafts cloaks from collected branches, resin, and leather, enhancing your abilities. Up to three layers can be worn simultaneously, with ability boosts stacking. Cloaks can also restore vitality in rare instances. Note that the outermost layer can be damaged and destroyed. The cloak is the only piece of equipment that changes; your bow and arrows remain constant.
