A planned paid DLC for the popular game Hogwarts Legacy has been canceled, according to a recent report by Bloomberg. Warner Bros. had intended to release a story expansion for the Harry Potter-themed adventure game alongside a "Definitive Edition" this year. However, the decision was made to cancel the DLC this week, with sources citing that the content volume did not justify the proposed price tag. Warner Bros. declined to comment on the matter when approached by Bloomberg.
This cancellation comes amidst a broader restructuring of Warner Bros.' gaming division, which has been grappling with financial challenges. Earlier in the year, Warner Bros. also canceled a planned Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio behind it, Monolith Productions, as well as WB San Diego and the studio responsible for MultiVersus, Player First Games. Additionally, layoffs at Rocksteady occurred just last September.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the significance of Hogwarts Legacy and the broader Harry Potter franchise within its portfolio. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities" as it shifts focus towards fewer but more substantial gaming franchises. The original game has achieved impressive sales, surpassing 30 million copies sold.
