Trump Mod Banned in Marvel Rivals

Nexus Mods Bans Donald Trump Marvel Rivals Mod for Violating Sociopolitical Rules

A recently uploaded Donald Trump mod for the popular game, Marvel Rivals, has been removed from Nexus Mods due to its sociopolitical nature, violating the platform's established guidelines. The game, developed by NetEase Games, has gained millions of players since its release, with many utilizing mods to customize character models. These mods have ranged from alternative skins based on Marvel comics and films to even incorporating characters from other games like Fortnite.

The Trump mod, replacing Captain America's model, quickly circulated on social media, sparking interest and even requests for a corresponding Joe Biden mod. However, both mods are now inaccessible on Nexus Mods, resulting in error messages.

Reason for Removal:

Nexus Mods' 2020 blog post explicitly stated a policy against mods involving US sociopolitical issues. This policy, implemented around the time of the 2020 presidential election, aims to maintain a neutral platform. While the mod's removal has been met with mixed reactions online—some unsurprised given the perceived incongruity of Trump with Captain America's image, others expressing dissatisfaction with the platform's political restrictions—it aligns with Nexus Mods' pre-existing guidelines. It's worth noting that similar Trump mods exist for other games like Skyrim, Fallout 4, and XCOM 2, highlighting the selective nature of this ban within the context of Nexus Mods' moderation policies.

NetEase's Silence:

NetEase Games, the developer of Marvel Rivals, has yet to comment on the use of character mods, including those depicting controversial figures. The company is currently focused on addressing other issues, such as gameplay bugs and resolving wrongful account bans.
