Sony's Hit Game Helldivers 2 Gets the Hollywood Treatment at CES 2025
At CES 2025, Sony unveiled exciting news for gamers and moviegoers alike: a film adaptation of its critically acclaimed game, Helldivers 2. The project is a collaborative effort between PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures.
Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, made the announcement, stating, "We're thrilled to confirm that production has commenced on a movie based on the immensely popular Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space combat brought to life on the silver screen.
Developed by Arrowhead Studios, Helldivers 2 is a captivating shooter drawing inspiration from the classic Star Troopers franchise. The game achieved phenomenal success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity surged further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.
This announcement follows the previously revealed Horizon Zero Dawn movie adaptation, a joint venture between PlayStation Studios and Columbia Pictures (the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted film).
Qizilbash offered a glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn project, commenting, "We're in the early stages of development for the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, but we can assure audiences that this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic portrayal."
