Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently revealed more details about his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This innovative game, first announced in 2018, is finally taking shape, moving beyond the "not-a-trailer-trailer" released last month.
The livestream, part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, focused on the game's development and Wright's personal connection to the project. BreakthroughT1D is a leading organization dedicated to Type 1 diabetes research and awareness, using its Twitch channel to collaborate with the gaming community for fundraising.
Proxi offers a deeply personal gaming experience. Players input their real-life memories as text, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes, or "mems," are editable using in-game assets for greater accuracy. Each added mem trains the game's AI, expanding the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D environment of hexagons.
This mind world populates with Proxies representing friends and family as more memories are added. Memories are arranged chronologically and linked to Proxies to recreate the context of each event. Remarkably, these Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds like Minecraft and Roblox!
Wright emphasized the game's goal: creating "magical connections with memories and bringing them to life." He highlighted the game's intensely personal nature, stating, "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player," adding with a laugh, "It goes to figure that the more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements forthcoming.
