Project Zomboid: How to Board Up Windows

Authore: BenjaminUpdate:Jan 26,2025

Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a suitable location; it demands robust defenses. This guide focuses on a fundamental yet effective method: barricading windows.

How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid

To effectively board up your windows, ensure you possess the necessary materials: one wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once gathered, right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for enhanced protection.

Resource acquisition is key. Hammers and nails are typically found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets, and similar locations. Wooden planks are commonly discovered at construction sites, or alternatively, can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.). Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command for item spawning.

Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie access. The more planks applied, the greater the resistance. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." Note that this requires either a claw hammer or a crowbar.

Larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as barricades; characters and zombies will pass through them. However, understanding furniture manipulation remains valuable for interior design purposes.

While wooden planks offer a basic defense, more advanced barricades using metal bars or sheets are achievable with sufficient Metalworking skill.
