Path of Exile 2's Early Access release has players eager to master their chosen classes. While not technically subclasses, Ascendancy Classes add specialized abilities and strategic depth. This guide explains how to unlock and utilize these powerful options.

Unlocking Ascendancy Classes

Before accessing Ascendancy Classes, players must complete a specific Trial of Ascendancy. In Early Access, choose between the Act 2 Trial of the Sekhemas or the Act 3 Trial of Chaos. Completing either trial rewards you with Ascendancy Class selection and two passive Ascendancy Points. The earlier Act 2 Trial is generally recommended for quicker access to enhanced abilities.

Available Ascendancy Classes (Early Access)

Currently, six base classes offer two Ascendancy choices each (twelve total Ascendancies are planned for the full release).

Mercenary Ascendancies

• Witch Hunter: This Ascendancy boosts offense and defense through passive buffs, enhancing damage output with skills like Culling Strike and No Mercy. Ideal for players who enjoy debuffing enemies and maximizing damage.

  

• Gemling Legionnaire: This option focuses on Skill Gems, allowing for extra skills and additional buffs. Its flexibility offers customization for diverse playstyles.

  

Monk Ascendancies

• Invoker: Embrace elemental powers and inflict status effects, mimicking an Avatar-like playstyle. A strong melee-focused elemental option.

  

• Acolyte of Chayula: Utilize shadow powers instead of Spirit, combining defensive and healing capabilities with reality-warping damage boosts. A unique, shadow-based alternative.

  

Ranger Ascendancies

• Deadeye: Enhance ranged combat with increased speed, damage, and accuracy, negating distance penalties with skills like Eagle Eyes and Called Shots. Perfect for archer builds.

  

• Pathfinder: Master poison and elemental damage, using abilities like Poisonous Concoction and area-of-effect buffs like Contagious Contamination. A non-traditional ranged damage dealer.

  

Sorceress Ascendancies

• Stormweaver: Amplify elemental abilities with an Elemental Storm and increased elemental damage. A solid upgrade for elemental casters.

  

• Chronomancer: Manipulate time to control cooldowns, offering strategic combat advantages. A dynamic playstyle for altering battle flow.

  

Warrior Ascendancies

• Titan: Maximize damage and tankiness with defensive buffs like Stone Skin and offensive boosts like Crushing Impacts and Surprising Strength. Ideal for heavy-hitting tank builds.
