Oblivion Remastered Update Causes Visual Glitches, Bethesda Seeks Solution

Authore: LilyUpdate:May 29,2025

Players woke up to discover that Virtuos' highly anticipated remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion received an unexpected update today, throwing PC gamers into chaos. Without any patch notes or clear explanation of what the update addressed, most players carried on with their gaming sessions as usual. However, others soon realized that the first update to Oblivion Remastered was causing more issues than it solved.

One frustrated gamer tweeted, "@virtuosgames, why push an update to Oblivion Remastered that disables all upscaling right before its launch weekend? No DLSS, no FSR—RIP playable performance! Disable auto-updates or disconnect your internet @bethesda @BethesdaStudios, HELP!"

A Reddit user chimed in, noting, "I can no longer change upscaling methods. It's set to 'off,' and even though the arrows are clickable, nothing happens. After closing the game, disabling fluid motion in the NVIDIA app, and restarting, loading times remain long, and I’m still stuck with 40-60 FPS on high settings with a Ryzen 5800X3D and RTX 5080. Great patch, huh?"

While some players didn’t notice significant changes, others reported plummeting framerates and complete lockout of upscaling options, leading to major visual issues just days before the remaster hits players' hands.

Bethesda attempted to address the growing concerns with a statement on its official support page. According to the post, the update was intended to include "a few backend tweaks with no direct impact on gameplay." Unfortunately, players purchasing Oblivion Remastered through the Microsoft Store are the ones facing problems with their upscaling and anti-aliasing settings.

"The graphic settings adjusted before the Microsoft Store hotfix remain enabled and functional," Bethesda confirmed. "However, due to the current issue with the settings UI, you temporarily cannot modify these settings. Our team is actively investigating and working toward a solution. We’ll provide further updates as soon as possible."

In the meantime, it seems PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S users are unaffected and can continue enjoying the game without interruption. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion officially launched for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S earlier this week.
