With just days remaining until Nintendo Switch 2's launch on June 5, Nintendo has overhauled its Nintendo Switch Online application, rebranding it as the Nintendo Switch App.
This represents a major shift, particularly since "Nintendo Switch Online" has been synonymous with Nintendo's subscription gaming service for years. The service offers online multiplayer capabilities alongside access to classic Nintendo titles spanning four decades - including NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and soon GameCube titles arriving with Nintendo Switch 2.
The version 3.0.1 update introduces more than just a name change - it features a redesigned interface for improved usability. The app now supports Nintendo Switch 2 consoles and GameChat invitations, along with enhanced friend management features including online status notifications.
One particularly welcome improvement (at least for this writer) is streamlined media management - players can now upload screenshots and videos directly through the app.
