During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo announced that nearly the entire Nintendo Switch catalog will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, select titles are receiving enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, featuring unique upgrades. These titles include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.

Each "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" game offers distinct enhancements. For instance, Super Mario Party: Jamboree is introducing "Jamboree TV," which includes mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced rumble, and gameplay utilizing the new camera accessory.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will see improvements in resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, they will benefit from a new feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, offering voice guidance for locating Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to feature a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, titled Star-Crossed World, along with upgraded graphics and framerates.

New titles such as Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A will also receive enhanced versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and run at 4K 60fps with HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will boast improved resolution and framerates.

These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Owners of the original Switch versions of Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby can purchase upgrade packs to enjoy the enhanced features.

The presentation also highlighted third-party games receiving Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, including Civilization 7 with mouse support and Street Fighter 6 with exclusive game modes.

Nintendo sparked curiosity about these "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week through a webpage footnote related to the Virtual Game Card system, which stated that these games cannot be transferred to the original Nintendo Switch via Virtual Game Card.
