Nintendo Switch 2 Image Confirms C Button on Joy-Con

Authore: JosephUpdate:Apr 16,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con as the "C" button, putting an end to the swirling rumors. This confirmation came through the newly released Nintendo Today! app, where close inspection of the app's promotional images on both the App Store and Google Play reveals the letter "C" on the button.

The C button was initially showcased with the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, but at the time, the button lacked any labeling in the images. Despite this, prior leaks and reports had already hinted at its designation as the "C" button, and now, those speculations have been validated.

The purpose of this new C button has sparked a flurry of speculation among fans and analysts alike. Theories range from it being used for wirelessly casting the Switch 2 to a TV, enabling screen sharing, to switching the Joy-Con's functionality into a mouse mode. Other guesses point towards it possibly facilitating new group or voice chat features.

PlayNintendo has announced a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, which promises to shed more light on these speculations. Until then, here's what we know for certain:
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • The console is larger than its predecessor, featuring larger Joy-Con that appear capable of functioning as a mouse.
  • It includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, doubling the connectivity options of the original Switch.
  • The Switch 2 is backward compatible, confirmed to play both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, as well as exclusive titles for the Switch 2. However, some older games may not be fully supported or compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.

In addition to the excitement surrounding the Switch 2, Nintendo recently hosted a Direct event focused on the original Switch, during which the Nintendo Today! app was unveiled. The legendary Shigeru Miyamoto introduced this app as a comprehensive platform for Nintendo enthusiasts. The app acts as a daily calendar and a news hub, providing real-time updates to keep fans in the loop.

Miyamoto highlighted that following the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct on April 2, fans can use the Nintendo Today app to stay updated on all the latest developments, with new information being released on a daily basis.
