Hot on the heels of announcing an additional 26 cast members for the much-anticipated Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel Studios and Robert Downey Jr. have hinted that there are still more surprises in store.
In a detailed livestream yesterday, Marvel unveiled the cast list for Avengers: Doomsday, confirming numerous actors who will join Robert Downey Jr. in this epic superhero film, alongside news of the start of production.
Among the standout announcements, Channing Tatum will reprise his role as the beloved X-Men character Gambit. You can view the full cast list for Avengers: Doomsday here.
However, some notable Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) stars were missing from the lineup. Absent from the list are Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Chris Evans, who had been rumored to appear in either *Avengers: Doomsday* or *Secret Wars*. Evans later refuted these rumors. Additionally, key characters like Hulk, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and Rhodey were not mentioned. On the X-Men front, there was no mention of Deadpool, Wolverine, Storm, or Jean Grey.Fans quickly voiced their disappointment over the absence of these fan-favorites, but hope remains. In an Instagram post following the announcement, Robert Downey Jr., who will portray Doctor Doom after years of leading the MCU as Iron Man, teased that more announcements are forthcoming.

“That’s what you call a deep bench of talent,” RDJ commented. “Actually, it’s more like a row, but an extra long one… That must be it.. right?”
Marvel then teased in the comments that "there's always room for more." The Russo Brothers, directors of the film, added: "It’s time…"

Earlier this month, the Russo brothers described Avengers 5 and Avengers 6 as a "new beginning," setting the stage for Phase 7 of the MCU.
“The only thing I’ll say about the movie is this: we love villains who think they’re the heroes of their own stories,” Joe Russo stated. “That’s when they become three-dimensional and more interesting. When you have an actor like Robert Downey, you have to create a three-dimensional, well-shaped character for the audience. That’s where a lot of our focus is going.”
Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following in May 2027. Leading up to these releases, Thunderbolts will premiere in May 2025, the TV series Ironheart in June, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps will kick off Phase 6 in July.
Additionally, Marvel Studios has scheduled three untitled projects for 2028: February 18, May 5, and November 10. Speculation is rife that one of these might be an X-Men film.
