Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Is Proof 'You Don't Need AI to Steal My Soul,' Harrison Ford Says

Harrison Ford, the iconic actor behind Indiana Jones, has expressed his approval of Troy Baker's portrayal of the character in the video game "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle." In an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Ford humorously remarked, "You don’t need artificial intelligence to steal my soul. You can already do it for nickels and dimes with good ideas and talent." He praised Baker, known for his role in "The Last of Us," for delivering a brilliant performance without the need for AI.

"Indiana Jones and the Great Circle," released in December, offers an authentic experience within the beloved franchise, though it may not be considered part of the official canon. This game's positive reception contrasts sharply with the lukewarm response to the latest film, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," which hit theaters in 2023. Given the game's success, the franchise's creators might consider focusing more on this new direction rather than bringing Ford back to reprise his role.

Ford, who has also starred in the Star Wars saga and is set to appear in Marvel projects, joins a growing list of creatives voicing concerns about the use of AI in media. Notable figures like Tim Burton, who finds AI-generated art "very disturbing," and Nicolas Cage, who sees it as a "dead end," share similar sentiments. Additionally, voice actors such as Ned Luke from "Grand Theft Auto 5" and Doug Cockle from "The Witcher" have criticized AI's impact on their profession. Luke called out a chatbot using his voice, while Cockle told IGN that AI is "inevitable" but "dangerous," highlighting how such technologies could rob voice actors of their income.
