How to Start the Hermit Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

The Hermit quest becomes available as you progress through the quests for blacksmith Radovan in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. After successfully locating the lost cart, return to Radovan. He'll express his desire to forge a sword as a wedding gift, triggering the start of the Hermit questline. Before you can proceed, you'll need to gather information from the villagers in Troskowitz.

Get Information About the Hermit

Begin your investigation at the tavern in Troskowitz by speaking with Innkeeper Betty and exploring all possible dialogue options. Then, engage with other villagers to gather more details. In my playthrough, I found the alehouse maid and the general trader particularly informative.

Talk to Gerda and Stanislav

Next, locate Gerda in Troskowitz, who claims to have seen the apparition. You can either bribe her with a small amount of Groschen or pass a dialogue check to extract the necessary information. After speaking with Gerda, head to Apollonia to talk to Stanislav. Similarly, you'll need to either pass a dialogue check or pay him to get the information you need.

Gather Evidence

With the preliminary information in hand, it's time to collect concrete evidence. Head to the cross Gerda mentioned and dig up the grave to uncover Groschen, along with documents and artifacts related to the Knights of the Cross. Remember, you'll need a spade for this task, which you can buy from the general trader in Troskowitz or find for free by searching cemeteries near the settlements.

After reading the documents, proceed to the quest marker in Apollonia where you'll find a hut and a clearing with a black horse. Examine the horse to gain your next clue, preparing you to confront the hermit.

Talk to the Hermit

Make your way to the hermit's hut and initiate a conversation with him. Without sufficient evidence, he won't be forthcoming, but now equipped with all the necessary clues, he'll be more willing to talk.

Choose the following dialogue options during your conversation:

  • "You’re suspicious."
  • Exhaust all dialogue options related to the clues and evidence.
  • "Out with it!"

The hermit, who is actually Konrad and not Ambrose, will reveal his true identity. He'll ask you to deliver a cross to a widow named Margaret before he'll hand over the sword. Visit the cemetery near Apollonia to meet Margaret and give her the cross, which will initiate the Sinful Soul quest. Completing this quest by helping her dig Ambrose's grave is optional; you can return to Konrad immediately if you prefer.

Help Konrad or Kill Him

Upon returning to the hermit's hut, you'll encounter Crusaders. You now have the choice to assist them in killing Konrad or help Konrad escape.

Sneak to the hut and inform Konrad that you've completed the task. Ask him about the sword's location. At this juncture, you can either aid Konrad or opt to kill him. I chose to kill Konrad as confronting the Crusaders is challenging, while fighting Konrad is easier, especially with the assistance of Mutt and the Crusaders.

After defeating Konrad, converse with the Crusaders and offer to return the documents in exchange for a small sum of Groschen.

Get the Hermit’s Sword

Finally, venture north of the hermit's hut to locate two tangled oak trees. You'll find the hermit's sword embedded in the ground. Retrieve it and return to Radovan in Tachov to complete the quest.

By following these steps, you'll successfully obtain the hermit's sword and complete the Hermit quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. For more tips and information on the game, including the best perks to get first and all romance options, be sure to check out The Escapist.
