James Bond audition tapes from 2005 have surfaced online, showcasing Henry Cavill's take on the iconic 007 role before he ultimately lost the part to Daniel Craig. According to Games Radar, these tapes were uploaded to the Ron South YouTube channel, run by an enthusiastic filmmaker with 1,890 subscribers. The channel also featured auditions from Sam Worthington, Rupert Friend, and Anthony Starr, but it's Cavill's performance that has captured the most attention over the years.
Many, including Casino Royale director Martin Campbell, have praised Cavill's audition, with Campbell describing it as "tremendous." In fact, Campbell reportedly favored Cavill for the role, but other decision-makers opted for Daniel Craig instead.
Despite missing out on Bond, Cavill got to explore the spy genre in the film Argylle, where he starred alongside a talented cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, and Catherine O'Hara. Unfortunately, the movie didn't fare well with critics, receiving a disappointing 4/10 from IGN.
Cavill's career remains diverse and successful, with notable roles such as Superman in the DC universe, Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher, and numerous other projects.
